Cherry Orchard Primary School Governing Body
Cherry Orchard Governing Body
Our Governing Body is made up of 14 people from Parents, Staff, the Community and the Local Authority – and we all volunteer our time to undertake this role. Jackie Harris is our Clerk, who is paid to provide professional support.
PARENT GOVERNORS (4)
Gaynor McClarey
I was elected as Governor in March 2015 and have 2 children in School. I have been a secondary teacher for 23 years and currently teach part-time to balance life with being a Mum. I know what is expected after primary school and am keen to offer support in ensuring all the children develop the skills they need to succeed while also enjoying coming to school.

Steph Poolton-Price
I have been a Governor for 2 years and have 2 children, one in School and one starting at Cherry Orchard in September 2015. After a number of years in the Police Force, I am now a Driving Instructor in the local area.
Dave Simpson
I have 2 children in School and have been a Governor for 4 years but was elected again in March 2015. I run my own IT Consultancy business so appreciate that IT is the foundation of our children’s futures. I hope we can develop the children technologically and give them the best possible head-start in this area.
Jo Williams
Already a Governor for 4 years, I was voted in again in March 2015. I have 2 children in School and work as a Pre-School Assistant at Cherry Orchard Pre-School. My interests are in the Curriculum and Pastoral issues.
STAFF GOVERNOR (1)
Karen Sterry
I’ve been teaching at Cherry Orchard for around 8 years and have been a Staff Governor for 4. My colleagues have recently voted for me again for a further 4 years.
I have sat on numerous Committees and have provided Staff voice to the discussions. I am passionate about phonics and ensuring the children’s well-being is being met.
HEADTEACHER
Mike Painter
I joined Cherry Orchard in January 2015 after being a Headteacher elsewhere in Worcester for 7 years. I am excited at the thought of working in such a progressive and welcoming school and value the support and challenge that the Governing Body offers me in my new role.
CO-OPTED GOVERNORS (7)
Simon Colley
I have taught at Cherry Orchard since 2001 and have experience in virtually every year group. I currently teach in Y6 I and am a Member of the Senior Management Team. I have been a Governor for over 4 years and my term of office was extended as the Governing Body constitution was changed.
Mandy Cooper
I have been a Governor for around 5 years and have seen my 2 children move up through Cherry Orchard. I am a qualified Social Worker, currently working in a fostering project for a national charity. I am particularly interested in Safeguarding and Looked After Children and have recently taken on the role as Safeguarding Governor.
David Long
I started as a Governor at Cherry Orchard in January 2015 but have previously been a Governor at the High School that I worked at when I lived in Northumberland. I work as a Data Manager in a Secondary School in Birmingham now and am keen to use my knowledge to help the Governing Body understand how teaching and learning is progressing through School. Having recently moved to Worcester I am still learning about the local area, but have enjoyed my time so far.
Rachael Oakley
I had no prior association with Cherry Orchard, but wanted to become a Primary School Governor as I am keen to volunteer my time by helping the local community and seeing the positive contribution that I can have. I am a qualified Careers Advisor and currently work with early years providers across the County.
Andie Ridley
I became a Governor around 8 years ago when my son was in School and have seen many positive changes in that time. I am an Accountant and own and manage Cherry Orchard Pre-School. This provides some understanding of the early years structure and the challenges that Schools face when the children start each September.
I really enjoy baking and have a passion for food, so it was very exciting when the school kitchen was completed.
Jo Weston
I have been a Governor for over 9 years, working with numerous people who all give their time freely to enhance the provision for all of the children and staff. I work part time for Worcestershire County Council working with groups of Councillors who examine Council services, but have previously been involved in sales, marketing and research.
I thoroughly enjoy working with everyone at Cherry Orchard and hope to continue this working relationship for as long as I can make a positive contribution.
Vacancy
LOCAL AUTHORITY GOVERNOR (1)
Kim Wattie
I volunteered to be a Governor at Cherry Orchard as my own children attended many years ago. I work for Worcestershire County Council as part of the Early Help & Partnerships Service managing the Prevention of NEET teams working with disillusioned 14-19 year olds who previously may not have had a positive experience of education. I am particularly interested in the transition from primary to secondary education and strongly believe that primary education is key to children progressing and succeeding both in secondary school and in life-long learning.
CLERK TO THE GOVERNING BODY
Jackie Harris
I’ve been Clerk since September 2012 and provide support on all matters of the Governing Body. I live locally and although I have 2 children they do not attend Cherry Orchard.
